Kundalini Yoga for Well-Being
Kundalini Yoga for well-being
Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness. One aspect is bringing awareness to our physical body, it brings awareness to what were holding, the tension, aches, pain, stiffness and stress. Kundalini yoga can help promote healing and reduce feelings of physical pain.
Within a Kundalini yoga class we close we our eyes, we go within so we can tune into our bodies and how were feeling, we don't compare or compete, we allow our hearts to guide our practice so we can listen to our bodies and allow our bodies to tell us what we need and what we need to do to release, to heal and if that means laying down and relaxing then that's what you do.
We use a variety of postures some of which we hold, some we move within, we use breath and focus to take us into the areas that for example ache, that are holding stress and we breathe into it, we embrace it, we deeply acknowledge the tension. This awareness of our discomfort allows a magic to happen, our bodies begin to release endorphin's, the kundalini energy (our creative life force) is stimulated and flows to the areas of pain and discomfort, we begin to move energy and open the body, releasing the connective tissue, the body begins to relax, the body's own healing process is stimulated and you experience a deep rejuvenating state of total relaxation where healing can take place. Regular practice gives you extra stamina and resilience in the face of everyday stress.
Through exercise endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine are released. These chemicals work together as the body’s natural painkillers and they make you feel good producing feelings of euphoria and a general state of well-being.
In kundalini yoga we focus alot on pranayama, breathing techniques, for example Long deep breathing which has a physiological effect on the nervous system, which in turn creates a sense of relaxation in the body and the mind. Although pain may still be present, it is often less noticeable, and often less debilitating, if the body is free of stress. A strong nervous system enables us to be able to face the world, to deal with stress and control our fight or flight response, we become less reactive and more calm, stable and chilled out.
Another way that kundalini yoga helps people deal with pain is related to Kundalini’s focus on the spinal column. Kundalini kriyas (set of postures and exercises) raise energy along the spine, at the same time stretching the spinal column, releasing tension in the back, maintaining flexibility and boosting the immune system. Kundalini Yoga also balances the glandular system, the “guardians of health” almost every cell and organ of the body is regulated by the endocrine system. The endocrine glands produce hormones to help the body function optimally, for example the Pituitary Gland secretes hormones that affect growth, blood pressure, protein synthesis and digestion. It also has to do with our ability to bond with others. When the Pituitary is weak, it can make a person feel lonely, depressed and disconnected from the world. Through kundalini yoga by strengthening our glandular and nervous system we feel more balanced and have a sense of belonging and we are more able to deal with the challenges that life faces us.
We also laugh alot!! and laughing is the best medicine :-)

9 July 2017''I love the Kundalini yoga class that I attend, it is such a warm supportive group and everyone is friendly and accepting. Everything is explained with humour and concern for our well-being. We share laughter, emotions, tears, spiritual insights and always, always make ourselves laugh at some point during the session. I have progressed from sitting in a chair to being able to sit in 'easy' pose which for me is a great improvement. I have learnt a lot about our connection to the universe and the world around us as well as understanding deeper spiritual connections. And I love the mantras and chanting! It's fun <3''
